Neon lighting pioneers Light Up North and London print house Divine Savages have collaborated to create a daring new innovation in wall covering - illuminated wallpaper – launching at 100% Forward at this year’s 100% Design.

Emma, Dave and Marty from Light Up North, a creative trio who have been blazing a trail across the north-east, have joined forces with London-based design duo Tom and Jamie from Divine Savages to create a truly unique installation of illuminated wallpaper. Unlike traditional neon lighting, made of glass tubes filled with gas, Light Up North are using emerging technology - electroluminescent (EL) neon wire - which will be sewn into the wallpaper to create a captivating effect.

“EL neon wire can be used like embroidery, making it the perfect material for creating bespoke, one of a kind interiors” says Emma Krause of Light Up North.

Visitors to 100% Forward will be invited to break away from traditional wallcoverings, to explore this new innovation in interior design and to discover the intricate possibilities this vibrant material can offer. Paired with Divine Savages’ statement Nocturnal Faunacation wallpaper, a jungle inspired print for style-it-dark fans, as well as their latest Crane Fonda design featuring elegant crested cranes amongst lush palm trees, the installation will show wallpaper in a totally new light.

“We’re obsessed with pattern and print, so wallcoverings were always going to be at the heart of what we do, injecting colour and bold design into interiors. We’re so excited to be able to take this to the next level using a brand-new technology like EL neon wire” says Jamie Watkins, co-founder of Divine Savages.

The collaboration will be part of this year’s 100% Forward – a platform to showcase emerging design talent. Curated by Barbara Chandler, design editor of Homes & Property at the London Evening Standard, 100% Forward will be the lead feature at this year’s 100% Design, welcoming visitors to the event with a space that’s guaranteed to inform, intrigue, inspire and impress.

 

 

Since the launch of their online boutique in October 2017, the Divine Savages brand has become synonymous with bold, daring design. After being shortlisted as a finalist at this year’s Spotted Awards, the duo collaborated with Oliver Thomas from BBC’s Great Interior Design Challenge at Grand Designs Live to create a Maximalist masterpiece design-room wrapped in their signature Faunacation wallpaper. Divine Savages also featured in this year’s Eporta X WGSN Interiors Trend Report, which highlights the year’s must-have interior trends.

Now in their second year, the brand continues to push the limits of emerging technology and apply it in new, innovative ways. Their unique work has caught the eye of top interior designers and has featured in projects for BBC’s DIY SOS, George Clarke’s Ugly House to Lovely House and Grand Designs Live 2018. Light Up North has been nominated for 100% Forward 2018, a celebration of new design talent curated by Barbara Chandler of The Evening Standard Homes and Property.
