Matthew Williamson packs The Cocktail Club with pattern...including ours!

It's no secret that we have cocktails running through our veins here at Divine Savages... after all, drinks appear within our logo, our prints, and in our hands come Friday 6 'o' clock. So it's no surprise this new event space really lands at the intersection of some of our favourite things...a cocktail club, playful pattern and a UK design legend. What's not to love?

The Cocktail Club is a new Birmingham hotspot brought to life by award-winning interior designer Matthew Williamson, renowned for his love of Maximalist design, playful pattern and vivid colour. You know we have a passion for interiors of this ilk, so we were absolutely delighted to be included in his vision.

The opulent entrance to the bar is hugged by our decadent, feathered, Art Deco-inspired wallpaper, Gershwing in Macaw. This deep pink, plum and ice blue  pattern plays with the bold black and white chequered floor, sumptuous red drapes and the stunning amber Murano chandelier from Renaissance London.

“I’ve loved every minute of working on this project. From a raw shell of a space to the glamorous finished interior, it’s been hard work but a great creative process. Working with The Cocktail Club has been a pleasure and I’m really proud of the results. My brief was to respect their well-known brand identity and philosophy whilst injecting some of my own personal interior design style.”

Once inside, The Cocktail Club has been divided into three unique bars with individual personalities. We may be biased, but The Eden bar is our favourite. It's dark and moody with a perfect blend of divine florals contrasted with savage creatures. Taking pride of place behind the seven metre long, marble-topped bar is our iconic 'Jungle' Faunacation wallpaper. This pattern fully fits the brief filled with its tropical palms, jungle foliage and big cats in a deep green colour palette. The big cat theme is brought to life with an amazing illuminated papier mâché cheetah suspended over the bar.

While the ceiling is transformed into hanging gardens, the other walls bring in yet another layer of pattern with our fabulous black Forbidden Bloom oversized floral wallpaper. This pattern hails from our Natural History Museum collection and balances moody opulence with surprise as the delicate blooms hide a secret savage serpent. Nestled in the velvet banquettes are clusters of velvet cushions in contrasting prints. In the front is our green Art Deco pattern, Gershwing in Parakeet, which references the wallpaper used in the entry. The Forbidden Bloom in Black cushion is another layer of the pattern used on the walls behind the seating, while the Jungle Faunacation cushions bring in the big cat element used in the area behind the bar.
Elsewhere Williamson has used his own designs, existing murals and a splash more Divine Savages wallpaper. The final result is a vibrant space where pattern takes priority, with design that dares to be different - we for one would love to take a seat and enjoy a cocktail or three.
Thank you to Matthew Williamson for creating such a personality-filled space and for including a little of our Divine Savages aesthetic! If you get to visit The Cocktail Club before we do – please enjoy and let us know!
